This was the first trip to Africa for the Madden family! The excitement was palpable. The Maddens chose to begin their adventure with a few days at the world famous Mala Mala game reserve which rewarded them with game viewing out the top drawer! The team then headed west to one of our 2 top plains game areas in the country - Khamab Kalahari Reserve. A highlight was spending quality time together around the campfire every evening as well as enjoying great Cheetah and Brown Hyena sightings. It was also fantastic that the boys - Holt, Phillip and Cameron - got suck in and helped with the skinning of their wonderful trophies. A great learning experience for them.
Holt hunted a massive 55" Kudu with an amazingly wide spread! Spectacular is the only way to describe this stunning trophy. Holt's favourite hunt was for a Springbok taken in the big pan amongst literally hundreds of animals. PH Clive selected a huge 16" male and Holt made a great shot to secure this fantastic trophy. Holt's magnificent 40" Gemsbok (Oryx) will be another stunning addition to the trophy room wall!
Phillip took a spectacular 40" Gemsbok bull as well! He also enjoyed his Eland hunt for a big old lone bull. He made a great shot and, as these animals are incredibly tough, a follow up was required and the trophy was in the bag.
Cameron hunted a super Zebra stallion with a single very well placed shot. He also had an excellent stalk amongst a herd of Zebra and Red Hartebeest to eventually take a great shot at a particularly big Red Hartebeest bull and hour later. The trophy measured a fantastic 24".
It was such a pleasure hunting with these young men who showed a great respect and appreciation for their quarry. The trophies collected on their first safari were truly spectacular! Thank you Maddens. It was a real pleasure!
